Here’s what we discovered: 🌿 Tortoises feel through their shells Yes, really! Their shells contain nerve endings, meaning they experience touch, pressure, and even pain. That means gentle, respectful interaction is key. 🚫 Why you should NEVER pick up a wild tortoise And it’s NOT for the reason you think. When a desert tortoise is startled, it releases its bladder — losing the water it needs to survive. That means even well-meaning people can unintentionally endanger them. 📜 You need a permit to have a tortoise Tortoises are protected wildlife.
